[9-3] Gjevilvassdalen is a splendid cultural landscape. [9-4] This part of Trollheimen is well known for its thrilling geology and plant life, and here there are many superb hike choices to various hike destinations. [9-5] Hikes to Blåhø, Gjevilvass-kamman and Okla are described in TT's Guide, 1994, Sylene and Trollheimen. [9-6] Another recommended book is Harald Taagvold and Kjell Haugland, Gjevilvassdalen, an introduction to the scenery and culture, Oppdal Upper Secondary School, 1993. [9-7] The number of km indicates the hike's length. [9-8]
[9-9] 1. Summit hike to Blåhø, at least 20 km, considerable elevation gain, partly along a marked trail. [9-10] Follow the marking toward Trollheimshytta to Nedre Kamtjern. [9-11] The Gjevilvasskamman - Blåhø area has a sumptuous, thrilling plant life. [9-12] On the hillside just before Nedre Kamtjern lies a botanical garden with nameplates set on many mountain plants. [9-13] Go directly up from the lake and follow a ravine on the inside of the rim and up the steep slope onward to the summit. [9-14] Same way down. [9-15] In wintertime the hike goes up to Svarthamran north of Blåhø. [9-16] Go directly up over the "roof" of Speilsalen / Blåsalen and up the north ridge of Blåhø. [9-17] Or around, in on the "rear side" of Blåhø and climb the peak from there. [9-18] Also in wintertime the summit hike may be made from Kamtjernan, but then up from the inner part of øvre Kamtjern. [9-19] It's smart to route the descent that way. [9-20]
[9-21] 2. Summit hikes to Okla and Høgsnydda, at least 15 km from Langoddsetra, mostly along marked trails. [9-22] Get a boat or car ride to Langodden on the other side of the lake. [9-23] Follow the marking towards Bårdsgarden to Okla and go up to Høgsnydda. [9-24] In wintertime, follow the same trail. [9-25] Even though Gjevilvatnet is watershed controlled, there's seldom any problem with surface water. [9-26]
[9-27] 3. To Speilsalen / Blåsalen, about 20 km, away from marking. [9-28] Follow the marking towards Trollheimshytta up to Gravbekken and go along Blåhøtjørna on its east side. [9-29] At the northeast end of the tarn there are 3 pitfalls for reindeer about 100 m from the waterside. [9-30] Follow the watercourse further upward to Svartjørnin. [9-31] The cavern formed, where the stream runs under a solid snowfield between the two southernmost tarns, is large in some years and makes up Blåsalen in the south and Speilsalen in the north. [9-32]
[9-33] 4. To Trollkyrkja at Langtjørna, about 18 km, away from marking. [9-34] Traverse up in back of the lodge, around Svahøa on its south side, go in on the east side of Svahøa and descend to the south end of Langtjørna. [9-35] Trollkyrkja is a rock cavern that is worth visiting. It lies 1,000 meters above the stream from Nonshø Tarn, about 500 meters directly east of the south end of Langtjørna. [9-36] There's a steep scree slope the last bit towards the cavern, but no worse than it can be easily ascended. [9-37] The return can go the same way or past Grøndalen on the north side of Tyrikvamfjellet and along the marked trail from Jøldalshytta. [9-38]
[9-39] 5. To Tyrikvamfjellet, about 8 km, away from marking. [9-40] Tyrikvamfjellet has a profuse plant life. [9-41] Traverse up from the lodge to the valley between Tyrikvamfjellet and Svahøa. [9-42] Then follow small paths and "botanize" your way to the summit. [9-43] Continue your plant studies on the west slope of the mountain. [9-44] Traverse to the northwest down from the summit and take the marked trail from Jøldalen back. [9-45]
[9-46] 6. To Heimre Gjevilvasskamman, about 15 km, away from marking. [9-47] Follow the marking towards Trollheimshytta up along Gravbekken until it turns northwards. [9-48] Walk on stones or wade the stream at a suitable place. [9-49] Go up to the ridge of Heimrekammen. [9-50] The last crags before the summit must be clambered. [9-51] Go out to the left past the last crag. [9-52] Those who don't like clambering on exposed rock should stop before the last crag. [9-53] The highest peak can also be reached by starting up from Nedre Kamtjern. [9-54]
[9-55] 7. To Midtre and Indre Gjevillvasskamman, about 25 km to and from Midre, partly away from marking. [9-56] Follow the marking towards Trollheimshytta up to Riaren. [9-57] Go to the col between Heime and Midtre Kammen. [9-58] Go directly up from there and then traverse the snow to the summit of Midtre. [9-59] The snow encountered here is steep, both in summer and in winter. [9-60] Even though this passage is seldom exposed to avalanches, it's inadvisable to go here during high avalanche risk periods in winter. [9-61] Magnificent view from the summit. [9-62] A hike around the innermost summit is recommendable on the same trip. [9-63] In the TT Guide, Sylene and Trollheimen, there's a description of a clambering tour from Gjevilvatnet up the ridge to both summits. [9-64]
